What's HOT for 2013: Beauty Trends

OUT with the OLD, in with the WHAT? Your new face has arrived!

From lippie to lashes, here are my top five beauty picks for 2013-

1. Bubble Gum Pout
2. A, B, CC Cream?
3. Extreme Lash Attack
4. Dead Digits
5. Poker Straight Locks

Go Bubbalicious with your lip colour this spring! Gone are the berry vamp hues of Winter '12, bring on the popping pinks. I recommend heading over to a MAC counter to ensure an artist help you pick the correct tone for your skin colour and remember to balance out the rest of your make up- let your pout make a statement. I love the look of Topshop's Lip Stick in Powder Room £7.00.

Colour Correction creams are a bit of old hat and frankly a step I chose to axe a long time ago. BUT now you can combine colour correction, hydration, sun protection AND a coverage in one fail swoop??? I'm sold! There a lots of offerings launching this coming spring from high street to high end, I am going to put the L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique CC Cream £9.99 to the test first.

I love lashes. The longer, thicker, curler the better-  so I am super stoked that BIG lashes are coming back- although for me they never left. Ahead of the times or stuck in a rut? You decide. I don't wear falsies day to day, but if you want to give them a whirl I highly recommend the Lancome Hypnose Drama in Black on sale now at £14.07, this comes with a free mini make up remover and Noir Kohl pencil. If you are going to dabble in falsies, go for a clear wand, spikey style like MAC Cosmetics number sevens.

Gone is the nail art craze of 2012. I am pleased, bedazzling 10 fingers on a bi-weekly basis was getting tedious. The mannequin hands are officially making a comeback, remember Revlon Grey Suede? Dig it out and apply to almond shaped nails for an ultra high fash finger. I shall be applying three coats of OPI Samoan Sand £11, but go ahead and match your varnish to your skin tone.

Poker straight locks are back with a bang. Wave good bye to your teasing comb and curling iron, super sleek hair with mirror like shine is HOT for Spring 2013. I personally cannot find a better tool than my classic GHD IV Styler which you can find online for £79.00. I like to keep my roots full and my ends glossy by using Batiste Big and Bouncy XXL Volume dry shampoo £2.00 and Morrocan Oil hair oil £9.00 for 25ml.

What Beauty Trends will you rock in 2013? Let me know in the comments below.

These Past Seven Days (14)

This week has been a goodun'. I have got back into my training stride at the gym, lost the Canadian flubber that I gained whilst gorging on Nanaimo bars and Butter tarts AND had my work/ friends Xmas meal :)

For the work Xmas Meal I arranged for the office staff to dine at Jamies Italian. For £30 squid you got 3 courses, prosecco and a mince pie! What's not to like! Meat good, veg good, chocolate tart good... I sound like Joey from Friends when he tucked into Rachel's meat trifle ;)

Anywayyyyy then Mattie and I speeded off into Richmond to join a LOT of friends for after dinner drinks and MAJOR catch ups... I talked and laughed so much that we all promised to not let it be tooo long before another outing!

I also made some Christmas decs! The tree was looking a bit bare since myself and Matt ate all of the Lindt choc tree decs, SO I purchased a couple of Oranges and made the easiest thing possible. Slice the oranges about 1cm thick, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and place dirrectly on the rack. Bake in the oven for a good couple hours on a super low temp (80-100C) until they've dried out. Poke some dec wire through and hang! The scent of pine and cinnamon orange is so nice to come home to, you need to do it!

And after all that, I am exhausted- done my house chores, worked out, written the chrimbo cards ready for posting next week and now I chill before a big Sunday roast round the Mothers.

Hope you all had a great week, check out my pics and see you in the next one.

My Current Foundation Routine and YouTube Demo!

I cannot go without foundation or some sort of base... unless I am 100% not leaving the house.

This never used to be the case, but because after my student life finished, and grown up LizFish1 emerged, I have gotten used to seeing myself 'fully faced' the majority of the time.

Now, full face does not mean full coverage, cakey base make up, so please enjoy my glowing, natural looking foundation routine video. Here I aim to show you how I go from being dark eyed, blotchy and pink, to smooth, even toned, natural looking, polished skin.

All tools and products used are listed after the vid in order of use!

Maybelline FITme Foundation- shade 315
MAC Strobe Lotion
Collection 2000 Concealer- 2 light
Make Up Forever HD Powder
MAC Powder Blush- Harmony
MAC Powder Blush- X Rocks
MAC Cream Colour Base- Pearl
Urban Decay setting spray- De- Slick

All brushes are Real Techniques because they are affordable, synthetic and amazing.

I don't even have to mention the fact that they are a global cosmetics company, born out of the phenomenon that is the YouTube community. Well I just did...

These Past Seven Days (12)

Okay... So the pics are actually from the past 14 days. I've been slacking on the social media front and for that I apologise. I did post a video on YouTube this week on my return from Vancouver... So if you are interested in seeing that, you can find it embedded in the post below.

This week I got back into the swing of things at work, in the gym and also recorded a major beauty haul, which I shall upload in the next couple if says. This weekend me and the Boyf travelled down to the Isle of Wight to see his in laws. The minute I get a whiff of the sea air I relax- I find being by the water so calming, I think this is why I love Olhos de Agua, Vancouver and the IOW so much.

Enjoy the pics kids, check you later.

OOTD: Tweed, Leather and Burgundy

Thank you all for bearing through my absence on social media for the past couple of weeks, I spent an amazing ten days with my family in the beautiful city of Vancouver. I spent the majority of my time shopping (hauls to come!), eating out, eating in, eating all the time.....

Whilst I was over there, I met up with fellow blogger Emilie Clarke! We had a fantastic day catching up over Starbucks, shopping downtown and lunching at Milestones. We also both got our hands on a Chanel-Esque beauty of a top from Zara. Emilie did record a Vlog and a subsequent OOTD of how she styled her top and so I have done likewise. Emilie chose to pair her T with jeans, heels and hoops for a semi-casual glam look and I dressed mine for the work place.

Hope you enjoy!! All possible links will be below-

Make Up- Maybelline 24hr Stay in Place make up in sun beige, Collection 2000 concealer in 2 light, Make Up Forever HD powder, MAC Harmony blush, MAC X Rocks blush, MAC Pearl CCB, Maybelline Permanent Taupe 24hr Tattoo e/s, Maybelline gel eyeliner in Brown, Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara in Black.

My MAC Lipstick Collection.

Thank you so much for watching my latest YouTube video. Do you like my lippie collection? What do I need to get next?

L-R-
Supreme Sheen- Supremely Confident. Concealer/ Beige toned nude. Has a very sheer and glossy finish, makes lips look light and hydrated.

Cremesheen- Crème de Nude. Salmon pink toned nude- much more wearable than the supremely confident and feels nice on the lips. A great base for other shades or glosses.

Amplified- Patisserie. My most worn lipstick of them all. This will probably be my wedding day lip of choice as I very much enjoy the finish a brown toned neutral colour.

Matte- Taupe. A brown toned velvet lip can be created with this shade from MAC, I love to wear it with autumnal colours and warm brow liner.

Frost- Costa Chic. A luminous, almost orange toned frosted lippie. Looks killer with bronzed skin and a bushy brow.

Cremesheen- Jazzed. A much more wearable, peachy toned coral. I like to wear this in the spring time with ice cream pastel nails.

MAC Viva Glam Gaga 1- Lustre. A blue toned pink, which I live to wear with Phone Number eye kohl and charcoal grey clothing.

MAC Viva Glam Cindy- Lustre. My most wearable cranberry toned red. It's a great berry lip for the day time with black liner and a cute blazer/ pencil skirt combo.

Amplified- Red She Said. Gorgeous deep red. I wear it with cat winged liner, fluttery lashes and a sexy LBD.

Until next time, Liz x

Eyelash Extension Review!

Hello everyone, my names Elizabeth and I am a lash addict.

My latest YouTube video is on my AMAZING new eyelash extensions!

Now, I am not lash virgin- I love an extension of any type, but false, fluttery lashes has to be my absolute favourite!

I was kindly asked by founder of Flutter Eyes , Kathryn if I would like to be a model for some training updates by experienced lash artists and I jumped at the chance!!! I was previously a lash extension convert back when I was at university and will never know why I stopped the treatment. The results are amazing and the time and effort it saves every morning is priceless.

I hope you enjoy both of my YouTube videos on the eyelash extensions, and if you have any questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments below.

My previous extension video (circa 2010, baby face!!!)

All extensions applied by experience  Flutter Eyes  lash artists. Please see their website for FAQ's, prices and to find out if they provide a lash service in your local area.

Part- Time Paleo (3)

When I started the part-time paleo plan it was the summer, it was slightly warm (I live in England!) and I was enthused by my imminent holiday and the unveiling of my bikini body.

Alas, now it is October- it's dark, heating is on and all I want to do is hibernate and carb up simultaneously. In my effort to not get too giggly in the cold winter months, I decided to come up with some comforting/ warming food stuffs.

So I made a curry. It was tasty. For the not so paleo Boyf, I just added brown wholegrain rice afterwards... Genius. Here's the list of ingredients and a pic of me dinner!

1. Brown onion
2. Add shredded cooked chicken thighs.
3. Add the masalas or a Patak's curry paste, but be careful to read the ingredients.
4. Add halved cherry tomatoes
5. Add spinach
6. Finish with half a can of coconut milk.
7. Hey presto! Awesome curry in minutes!

Hope you enjoyed that simple paleo recipe, sometimes the simplest meals are the tastiest! Think I'll try making a beef stew next?!

These Past Seven Days (8)

Last week was pretty eventful! I spent the week working, gyming and eating. in the words of Geordie Shore #standard.

Here's some shots I took on my iPhone to sum up my week.

1. The Plymouth Wheel
2. French manicure time
3. Paleo oatmeal (recipe below!)
4. Giant bed!
5. Rose gold obsession (H&M rocks!)
6. Workout of the day
7. Starry B'z Friday treat
8. Winnie visits The Fisher's

I hope you all had a great week! What did you get up to?

Saturday 25 August 2012

Part- Time Paleo (2)

No-Oatmeal

I love Friday nights. My work week is done and I am excited for me weekend ahead, this one especially because its a Bank Holiday (skips with Joy!). On Friday night I decided to do some food prep to get me back on the paleo track.

The one food item I am missing the most is my porridge/ oatmeal breakfast, so when I saw TuesdaysMom (Instagram) posted a snap of a Paleo Oatmeal I had to try it.

On Friday night I chose to make my own apple sauce as I had a lot of apples on the way out and did not fancy scouring the supermarket for unsweetened stuff. I googled away and found a very simple 'how-to' recipe.

1. Core and Quarter 4-6 small apples of your choice
2. Boil in 2 cups of water for ten minutes (skin will wrinkle, apples will soften)
3. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon and vanilla extract to your softened apples
4. Return to the heat, and gently simmer (lid off) for a further thirty minutes.
5. Mash or food process the mixture, et voila!
6. Store the apple sauce in the fridge, add to yogurt, ice cream, scrambled eggs or make my No-Oatmeal!

No-Oatmeal Breakfast (see what I did there?!)

Basic Ingredients- measurements can vary depending on consistency, taste you prefer.
Unsweetened Apple Sauce (4 tablespoons)
Almond Butter (1-2 tablespoons)
Unsweetened Almond/ Coconut Milk (1-2 tablespoons)

My creative additions- try any fruit/ nut/ seed combo you like.
Half a Banana
Handful of Pecans
Sprinkle of Cinnamon

1. Heat on low all the basic ingredients above until binded seamlessly.
2. Poor into your breakfast bowl and sprinkle with creative additions.
3. Consume.

NOTD: Classic French Manicure

I'm not typically a French Mani lover, ruined by WAG's in the late nought-ies, I fell out of love with this classic, neat design. After a recent rekindling with the French Pedi a week ago, I decided to treat the talons.

This look is great for work, special events and when you are flabbergasted by the sheer amount of varnishes in your collection.

To create my perfect French, I use the following- Seche Vite retain base coat, OPI Bubble Bath, Salon Systems White Polish and Seche Vite Top Coat.

What do you think? Tres chic OR WAG- tastic?

Part- Time Paleo (1)

I have not written a 'lifestyle' post in a long time.. So here goes!

A few months back, I saw the Reebok Crossfit ad on telly and coerced the boyf into researching how we could get involved. After finding our closest Crossfit Affiliate and completing our fundamentals program, I can definitely say, we are both hooked! It's an amazing way of training, but better still the entire ethos or community of this 'competitive fitness' program is unparalleled.

So after scouring the internet and watching the Crossfit Games I wanted to learn more about the Paleo diet. I am an ex-carb queen and have been a fan in the past of going low-carb prior to 'bikini reveal' on my annual holiday to Portugal to 'lean up' aka lose of bit of flubber.

The Paleo diet, as I understand it, is a diet consisting of Meat, Veg, Nuts, Seeds, little Fruit, NO Sugar, and NO Starch.

This seemed super daunting back in May, but once I stopped thinking about what I couldn't have, common phrase, "I can't have that, its not on the list" and started broadening my horizons about all the things I can enjoy, I learnt that you can create super tasty, healthy recipes in a flash without 100's of ingredients.

This is the 'food list' I try to follow 80% of the time- Paleo Food List

That being said, I found Breakfast one of the hardest meals to adapt from 'Carb Queen' to 'Paleo Warrior'. Insert my first Paleo recipe- 'The Fake French'. This recipe is far from original, its a slightly adapted recipe from the amazing Livin Paleo

Ingredients-
Small Apple- core, cut into little pieces and peel if you can be bothered (i didn't)
2 Free Range Eggs
1/2 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 tsp Agave Nectar
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Nutmeg

How to-
Cut up apple and heat in a pan
Add eggs and milk
Season
Drizzle with honey
Chow Down!!!

This recipe is totally adaptable- use coconut milk, vanilla, bananas... GET CREATIVE! Now take a look a my tasty breakfast!

from my Instagram (lizfish1)
Hope you enjoyed this post! What are my fellow 'Paleo Warriors' eating today??

Magik Mud

I love mud masks! Even as my skin gets slightly dryer as I age (terrifying I know!), I still love the deep cleansing and skin purifying action of clay masks.

My current weekly mask treat comes from Dead Sea Spa. I trained in this brand at University and fell in live with their company ethos. The Dead Sea Spa Epsom-like salts are amazing in. Hot bath before bed, but my favourite product from them is the Mud Mask.

I cleanse my skin thoroughly and once a week apply a thick layer of this musk all over my skin. I let it work it's "Magik" (see what I did there?) until fully dry, then runs with warm water and facial sponges.

Et voila! Clear, clean, clarified skin.

I purchased the Dead Sea Spa Magik Mud Mask from Holland and Barrett. The mask retails for £7.99 for 75mls and contains active ingredients like Harmonised waterTM, dead sea mud, kaolin and glycerin.

What's your favourite mud/ clay mask?
