Twenty Fourteen

It's gonna be a great one, I just know it.

Thank you for all of your support over the past year- whether it be on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or on ze Blogosphere. Had an awesome time filming, snapping and writing for you all.

Heres a picture which I think sums up my year. Its been cray cray.

I turned twenty six. I met Carly, Onna and Liz at Shoot Me Fab. Travelled to the New Forest. Had a 'Spice Girls' High Tea with my Mummy. Got infected with Shingles. Started a new Job. Enjoyed the 'Last Fisher Family' holiday in Portugal, or so my Dad thinks. Learnt to pole dance and was pretty darn good at it. Had THE best USA themed Bridal Shower EVER. Married my best friend. Watched my little bro play at Twickenham. Explored San Diego, LA and San Francisco. Met Lily and Anna at their Kiehls Meetup. Took part in a epic bake-a-thon with Mumma Fish. Celebrated an amazing Christmas day surround by Fishers and Mr Lawrence.

So what will 2014 bring? You can make a change to your life- any day, any time. Don't wait for a new year or even a new day to change your mind set- live to to the fullest. That being said, here are my resolutions-

1. Train more frequently. When I do I train hard- BUT towards the end of 2013 I let my 4x a weekly routine slip and I am definitely gonna get a hold of that this year. I am loving my Ashtanga yoga with Krishna Yoga and my Husband is opening his own Crossfit Box (Crossfit2012) so I will have NO excuses.

2. Clean up my Diet. I do eat in a paleolithic/ primal style and my main meals have remained that way. But in the festive season I have definitely consumed more alcohol and sugar than normal and I am feeling the bloat. So I gotta tighten the treats up just a little and flush out the baddies so that I can feel confident in my skinnies once more.

3. Don't set myself up to fail. I tend to set myself unrealistic expectations. From work, to training, perfect diet, skin, hair, nails, youtube, blogging, my house etccccccccc. No one is perfect, and I can't expect myself to be. So I need to learn to be happy about where I am in the moment, take joy from everyday, especially the little things.

4. Be kind to myself.  Sorta, kinda goes with what I said above. But I just have to reiterate. Your biggest critic will always be you. Criticise less, compliment more.. you catch my drift.

5. Read more. I'm not talking blogs, grazia, daily mail or any other showbiz news. I mean real, hard core books. Perhaps even some fiction. I know I need to, I should want to grow my vocabulary, suspend my disbelief and enjoy being quiet still. I claim to have NO time, but you make time for what is important.

So what do you think? Good rezzies? What are yours? Liz xoxo

Part Time Paleo (4)

So basicallllllyyyyyyyy I am a top notch Chef... Just call me Chef Fish.

JOKES! My boyf Physio_Matt (follow him on twitter!) thinks I am the best cook ever OBVZ- but I think this maybe because Matt is always starving and I can serve him the blandest meal ever and I still get heaps of compliments.

If you are an avid reader of my blog (thanks!) then you may know that for the past year or so I have tried to adapt to a paleolithic/ primal way of eating. I have been given a recent kick up the butt by Matt. He recently became of Crossfit Level 1 trainer and whilst on this course he learnt a lot more about primal eating and the zone diet and became an instant convert!

Simply this means a diet consisting of meat, vegetables, nuts, seeds, little fruit and no sugar.

I obviously include weekly cheats, and the cheats I allow myself correlate to the amount of exercise I have completed. I digress...

Here is an awesome, simple, quick meal to make that appeals to the taste buds as well as complying to the primal way of eating. I present to you- Coconut Tilapia with roasted red peppers  on a bed of spinach. Recipe below the mouth watering images :)

Recipe

  • Tilapia. Sprinkle the little fillet with the following- salt, pepper, coriander, desiccated coconut, jalepeno peppers and red chilli powder. Bake in the oven on 180 (fan assisted oven) until the flesh is opaque.
  • Red Peppers- deseed and then season with salt, pepper, red chilli powder and EVOO. I think half x2 cherry tomatoes and let these roast inside with a little sprinkling of fresh garlic. Roast in the oven for approx 30 mins on 180 (fan assisted oven) or until the peppers begin to charcoal and curl slightly.
  • Spinach- wash and then steam- NO nonsense spinach!

Hey presto! Bon appetite peeps! What do you think of the primal/ paleo food regime? Any recipe ideas for me? Leave them in the comments below!

Lots of Love,

Part- Time Paleo (2)

No-Oatmeal

I love Friday nights. My work week is done and I am excited for me weekend ahead, this one especially because its a Bank Holiday (skips with Joy!). On Friday night I decided to do some food prep to get me back on the paleo track.

The one food item I am missing the most is my porridge/ oatmeal breakfast, so when I saw TuesdaysMom (Instagram) posted a snap of a Paleo Oatmeal I had to try it.

On Friday night I chose to make my own apple sauce as I had a lot of apples on the way out and did not fancy scouring the supermarket for unsweetened stuff. I googled away and found a very simple 'how-to' recipe.

1. Core and Quarter 4-6 small apples of your choice
2. Boil in 2 cups of water for ten minutes (skin will wrinkle, apples will soften)
3. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon and vanilla extract to your softened apples
4. Return to the heat, and gently simmer (lid off) for a further thirty minutes.
5. Mash or food process the mixture, et voila!
6. Store the apple sauce in the fridge, add to yogurt, ice cream, scrambled eggs or make my No-Oatmeal!

No-Oatmeal Breakfast (see what I did there?!)

Basic Ingredients- measurements can vary depending on consistency, taste you prefer.
Unsweetened Apple Sauce (4 tablespoons)
Almond Butter (1-2 tablespoons)
Unsweetened Almond/ Coconut Milk (1-2 tablespoons)

My creative additions- try any fruit/ nut/ seed combo you like.
Half a Banana
Handful of Pecans
Sprinkle of Cinnamon

1. Heat on low all the basic ingredients above until binded seamlessly.
2. Poor into your breakfast bowl and sprinkle with creative additions.
3. Consume.

Part- Time Paleo (1)

I have not written a 'lifestyle' post in a long time.. So here goes!

A few months back, I saw the Reebok Crossfit ad on telly and coerced the boyf into researching how we could get involved. After finding our closest Crossfit Affiliate and completing our fundamentals program, I can definitely say, we are both hooked! It's an amazing way of training, but better still the entire ethos or community of this 'competitive fitness' program is unparalleled.

So after scouring the internet and watching the Crossfit Games I wanted to learn more about the Paleo diet. I am an ex-carb queen and have been a fan in the past of going low-carb prior to 'bikini reveal' on my annual holiday to Portugal to 'lean up' aka lose of bit of flubber.

The Paleo diet, as I understand it, is a diet consisting of Meat, Veg, Nuts, Seeds, little Fruit, NO Sugar, and NO Starch.

This seemed super daunting back in May, but once I stopped thinking about what I couldn't have, common phrase, "I can't have that, its not on the list" and started broadening my horizons about all the things I can enjoy, I learnt that you can create super tasty, healthy recipes in a flash without 100's of ingredients.

This is the 'food list' I try to follow 80% of the time- Paleo Food List

That being said, I found Breakfast one of the hardest meals to adapt from 'Carb Queen' to 'Paleo Warrior'. Insert my first Paleo recipe- 'The Fake French'. This recipe is far from original, its a slightly adapted recipe from the amazing Livin Paleo

Ingredients-
Small Apple- core, cut into little pieces and peel if you can be bothered (i didn't)
2 Free Range Eggs
1/2 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 tsp Agave Nectar
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Nutmeg

How to-
Cut up apple and heat in a pan
Add eggs and milk
Season
Drizzle with honey
Chow Down!!!

This recipe is totally adaptable- use coconut milk, vanilla, bananas... GET CREATIVE! Now take a look a my tasty breakfast!
